Garifuna Arts and Crafts

Masks - Garifuna folk art, Roatan, HondurasGarifuna Folk Art - Dolls

This folk art is created by Pedro Miranda and Eloy Martinez, Garifuna natives of Punta Gorda, Roatan, Honduras.

They use natural materials that are locally plentiful. Much of this art depicts life typical of the Garifuna culture.

Roatan's Garifuna population are our most unique inhabitants; they continue to speak their own Garifuna language , although most speak English and Spanish, too. They are descended from the mixing of the Carib Indians and black Africans, and have been around this part of the world for several hundred years. Most of Roatan's Garifuna live in the community of Punta Gorda.
